How are the lessons structured?

Each class is based on four components:

1.      Self-study online component:

a.      New vocabulary for the unit with audio is presented in context.

b.      New vocabulary exercises ensure you know how the new words and phrases are used.

c.       Reading/listening comprehension

d.      Discussion questions for the unit which will be taken up in class

2.      Live online class through video conferencing – You can see and hear the teacher, and he/she can see and hear you. It’s not just a listening class! It’s your chance to talk and ask questions in a supportive environment! Live class topics include structured discussions, short presentations, and board meeting role plays. We will correct pronunciation and enunciation problems and fix grammar and structure issues.

3.      Writing Workshop: Learn grammar and structure based only on your areas of difficulty! Students submit 1) business emails and 2) letters for common business situation. The writing is checked by a professional editor who highlights errors and gives a brief explanation for each problem (i.e. "verb tense"; "should be adverb form not adjective form"; "run-on sentence"; "word choice"; etc.). The writing is sent back to the student who has an opportunity to self-edit. The student submits his/her corrected copy to the teacher who performs a final edit with 1) explanations for changes, 2) examples to ensure changes are clear, and 3) appropriate grammar and structure exercises related to the student’s area of difficulty. You only study the grammar and structure that you need!

As well, through the Writing Workshop, students become comfortable writing and responding to business emails in formal English. They will have a collection of templates for their most commonly used emails

        The only way one can improve one's English is by reading and writing. There isn't any other effective way to acquire a mature vocabulary. Grammar and structure are learned through correction by a teacher. This is followed up with a brief vocabulary test for the previous reading and a discussion/presentations. By that time, the new terms have been seen, written, heard, and spoken 5 or more times, which should ensure that they are internalized.

4.      Vocabulary tests: Automatic 5-minute vocabulary tests are sent to you every day! The tests include new terms from the unit you are currently doing and questions you got wrong on previous tests. We will keep testing you until you get it right. You will learn – guaranteed!

        At this point, you have read, heard, spoken, and written the new terms at least five times. And we will keep reminding you and testing you until you never forget!
